Lake 2 Lake Project
The Baltimore City Department of Transportation (BCDOT) has been awarded a Pandemic Response and Recovery grant, providing short-term funding and technical assistance to cities to help them adapt streets in service of communities disproportionately impacted by COVID-19.
The National Association of City Transportation Officials (NACTO) grant will increase safety for people walking, biking, and traveling in Baltimore City. It also emphasizes partnerships with local stakeholders to support community engagement efforts as we continue to improve our transportation network. Community partners include Bikemore, Black People Ride Bikes, and Graham Projects.
The project will increase visibility and access to Druid Hill Park and Lake Montebello which have seen huge increases in usage during the COVID 19 pandemic as people have sought outdoor spaces for safe walking, biking, and exercise.
Roadway improvements will include traffic calming and public art at 33rd Street at Hillen Road as well as along The Big Jump path on Druid Park Lake Drive. This is a quick build project leveraging existing plans and meant to serve as an intermediate step for long term improvements. The roadway projects will be paired with community engagement for public art and fun bike/walk safety events led by the project’s community partners.
Informational meetings will be held in August and coincide with community engagement both online and in-person with the communities surrounding Lake Montebello and The Big Jump.
