Traffic Modifications For Annual Monument Lighting

Temporary road closures will be implemented for the annual lighting of the Washington Monument.  The event will be held on Thursday, December 07, 2017, rain or shine.  Festivities in historic Mount Vernon will start at 5:00 p.m. 

In preparation for the event, the following streets will be closed to through traffic on Thursday, December 07, 2017 with detours and parking restrictions in effect:

  • East Mt. Vernon Place from Charles to St. Paul Streets - 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.
  • North Charles Street from Centre to Madison Streets - 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.
  • West Mt. Vernon Place from Charles to Cathedral Streets - 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 06, 2017 through 10:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 07, 2017

Motorists traveling in this vicinity should be on the watch for pedestrians attending the event and are strongly encouraged to use alternate routes.
