Annapolis Road Bridge scheduled to close on or about March 04; Lane closures along MD 295 starting in mid-March will cause traffic delays

The Baltimore City Department of Transportation would like to advise motorists that the Triples Bridges Project over MD 295 in Baltimore City is about to begin.  The Triple Bridges Project includes the replacement of the Annapolis Road, Maisel Street and Waterview Avenue bridges over MD 295 starting in early 2019, and construction activities will continue through early 2023.

The $40 million project includes full replacement of the three bridges, along with the installation of an auxiliary lane on MD 295, improvements to the Waterview Avenue exit ramps, installation of a retaining wall, new signage and the resurfacing of Annapolis Road from Patapsco Avenue to the Waterview Avenue Bridge.

Construction activities along this portion of MD 295 will soon be underway.  Crews will begin placing construction signage and traffic drums on MD 295, Waterview Avenue and Annapolis Road, and heavy equipment will begin moving into the area.  Night-time utility work will also begin on Annapolis Road/Waterview Avenue near the fire station which will require lane closures, flagging operations and temporary traffic stoppages in this vicinity. 

Starting on or about Monday, March 04, 2019, the Annapolis Road Bridge will be closed to through traffic between Patapsco Avenue and Wegworth Lane with detours in effect.  This bridge will remain closed for approximately two years while a new structure is being built.

Then, on or about Monday, March 18, 2019 lane closures will be implemented along both north and southbound MD 295, and MD 295 will be reduced to two lanes of through traffic in each direction throughout the majority of the project. 

Lane closures due to construction will significantly impact traffic along MD 295.   Variable message signs will be placed in the area to alert motorists of the project.  Citizens should be on the watch for various traffic pattern changes and construction activities along this portion of the expressway.  Lane closures along MD 295 will cause congestion and delays, so motorists are strongly encouraged to allow additional travel time and to use alternate routes. 

Throughout the project, construction schedules, updates and lane/road closures will be posted to the project website at 295triplebridges.com.  Citizens are encouraged to visit the website and plan ahead to avoid traveling through the construction activities.

Suggested Detours Routes:

• Northbound Annapolis Road – Northbound Annapolis Road traffic will be detoured east on Patapsco Avenue, north on Potee Street, north on Hanover Street, and west on Waterview Avenue back to Annapolis Road.
• Southbound Annapolis Road – Southbound Annapolis Road traffic will be detoured east on Waterview Avenue, south on Potee Street, and west on Patapsco Avenue back to Annapolis Road.
• MD 295 suggested alternate routes – Citizens that commute into and out of Baltimore City should consider using alternate routes such as I95, I395 and I695 (Wilkens Avenue and Frederick Road exits) to avoid congestion and delays once the MD 295 lane closures are implemented.
