Weekend Road Closures for October 05-07, 2018

The Baltimore City Department of Transportation encourages all citizens to plan ahead if traveling in the areas listed below by allowing additional travel time and arriving early to avoid delays.  In addition to Fleet Week events, the following events will be occurring in Baltimore City this weekend. 

Traffic Modifications for the Morgan Homecoming Parade

The Baltimore City Department of Transportation would like to advise motorists of the temporary street closures and parking restrictions in effect for the Morgan Homecoming Parade which will be held on Saturday, October 06, 2018 starting at 9:00 a.m. 

The parade will kick off from The Alameda and Chinquapin Parkway and will proceed south on The Alameda, east on Coldspring Lane and south on Hillen Road where it will disband.  The parade is expected to last approximately two hours.

In preparation for the event, the following streets will be closed to through traffic on Saturday, October 06, 2018 with detours in effect:

8:00 a.m. until clear – Hillen Road from Argonne Drive to Coldspring Lane

8:45 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. – The Alameda from Chinquapin Parkway to Coldspring Lane

8:45 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. – Coldspring Lane from The Alameda to Hillen Road

In addition, parking restrictions will be in effect along the following roadways from 8:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon:

Both sides of The Alameda from Chinquapin Parkway to Coldspring Lane

Both sides of Coldspring Lane from The Alameda to Loch Raven Boulevard

South side of Coldspring Lane from Loch Raven Boulevard to Hillen Road

Both sides of Hillen Road from Argonne Drive to Cold Spring Lane

Commuters should be aware that temporary traffic stops may be implemented along the parade route for the safety of participants.  The Baltimore City Police and Transportation Enforcement Officers will be stationed along the route to help facilitate the movement of traffic. Motorists traveling in this vicinity are encouraged to watch for pedestrians and use alternate routes.

 

Traffic Modifications for the Canton Fall Festival

The Baltimore City Department of Transportation would like to advise motorists of the traffic modification for the Canton Fall Festival.  The event will be held in Patterson Park on Saturday, October 06, 2018 from 10:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. 

In preparation for the event, Linwood Avenue will be closed to through traffic between Eastern Avenue and Pratt Street on Saturday, October 06, 2018 from 7:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. with detours in effect.  Parking will also be restricted in this area during this time.

Detour signs will be posted in the area.  Motorists traveling in this vicinity are encouraged to watch for pedestrians and should consider using alternate routes.

 

Ramp Closures Along the Jones Falls Expressway

On Saturday, temporary ramp closures will be implemented along a portion of the southbound Jones Falls Expressway for tree trimming activities.  On Saturday, October 06, 2018, intermittent ramp closures will be implemented along the southbound Jones Falls Expressway at Northern Parkway and Coldspring Lane from 6:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.  The ramp closures will occur intermittently during these hours and will include both exit and entrance ramps to the expressway.

Motorists traveling in this vicinity should be on the watch for changing traffic patterns and are encouraged to use alternate routes.

 

Traffic Modifications for the Baltimore Bar Foundation – Racing The Bar

The Baltimore City Department of Transportation would like to advise motorists of the traffic modifications in effect for the Baltimore Bar Foundation’s Racing the Bar footrace.  The event will be held Sunday, October 07, 2018 beginning at 8:00 a.m.

The race will start and finish on N. Charles Street between Mt. Royal Avenue and Oliver Street adjacent to the University of Baltimore Law School.  Runners will head north on N. Charles Street, left on W. Lanvale Street, then continue right on Falls Road to the turnaround point at the W. 28th Street overpass.  Participants will continue south on Falls Road, straight on W. Lanvale Street, right onto N. Charles Street to finish at the intersection of Mt. Royal Avenue.

During the event, one lane of travel will be coned off for participants along the race route where possible.  Commuters should be aware that temporary traffic stops may be implemented along the parade route for the safety of participants.  Baltimore City Police and Transportation Enforcement Officers will be stationed along the race route to help facilitate the movement of traffic. Motorists can expect minor delays in the vicinity and are encouraged to use caution when traveling in the area.

 

Traffic Modifications for the Sowebo Landmark 5K Race

The Baltimore City Department of Transportation would like to advise motorists of the traffic modifications in effect for the Sowebo Landmark 5K Footrace.  The event will be held Sunday, October 07, 2018 beginning at 9:00 a.m.

The race starts near historic Union Square Park on Hollins Street at Stricker Street. Runners will proceed east on Hollins Street, right on Schroeder Street, left on Lemon Street, right on Poppleton Street and right on Pratt Street.  The race proceeds left through the B & O Railroad Museum Service Entrance, through the museum grounds and left on Arlington Street, across the railroad tracks and right onto James Street.  Participants will turn left on Bayard Street to enter Carroll Park at the Washington Boulevard entrance and follow marked trails in the park up to Mount Clare Mansion and back out to turn right on Bayard Street.  Runners will turn left onto James Street, left on Arlington Avenue, and left onto Hollins Street to finish at the HL Mencken House.

During the event, one lane of traffic will be closed for the runners along the course route where possible. Commuters should be aware that temporary traffic stops may be implemented along the parade route for the safety of participants.  The Baltimore City Police and Transportation Enforcement Officers will be stationed along the route to help facilitate the movement of traffic. Motorists traveling in this vicinity are encouraged to watch for pedestrians and use alternate routes.

 

Traffic Modifications for the Columbus Day Parade

The Baltimore City Department of Transportation would like to advise motorists of the street closures and parking restrictions in effect for the Columbus Day Parade which will be held on Sunday, October 07, 2018

The parade will step from Parking Lot C at Oriole Park at Camden Yards beginning at 1:00 p.m.  The parade will kick off from the stadium complex and proceed north on Howard Street, east on Pratt Street, and south on Exeter Street to the reviewing stand at St. Leo’s Church in Little Italy. 

During the parade, road closures will be implemented in the downtown area for several hours, so citizens planning on attending downtown festivities on Sunday, October 07 should arrive early before the parade begins.

In preparation for the parade, the following streets will be closed to through traffic on Sunday, October 07, 2018:

  • North & southbound Howard Street between Conway and Pratt Streets from approximately 12:45pm to 2:30pm
  • Southbound Howard Street between Lombard and Pratt Streets from approximately 12:45pm until 2:30pm
  • Pratt Street between Howard and Exeter Streets from approximately 12:45 pm to 3:00 pm
  • Exeter Street between Pratt and Bank Streets from approximately 12:45pm to 3:30pm
  • Stiles Street between High and Exeter Streets from approximately 12:45pm to 3:30pm
  • High Street between Trinity and Stiles Streets from approximately 12:45pm to 3:30pm

Commuters should be advised that temporary traffic stops will  be implemented along the parade route for the safety of participants.  Roadways will be reopened to vehicular traffic once the parade passes.  Motorists traveling in this vicinity are strongly encouraged to use alternate routes to avoid congestion and delays.

Throughout the event, Transportation Enforcement Officers along with the Baltimore City Police will be working to assist with the movement of traffic.
