Heavy Volumes of Traffic Expected Downtown on Thursday Afternoon

The Baltimore City Department of Transportation would like to advise motorists that heavy traffic volumes are expected in downtown Baltimore tomorrow afternoon, Thursday, September 12, 2019.

Motorists traveling in the downtown area Thursday afternoon should be aware that heavy traffic volumes are expected between 4:00 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. Motorists should avoid the downtown area South of Baltimore Street between Martin Luther King Blvd. to N. Central Avenue.  Temporary intersection closures may occur in the afternoon and early evening hours which will cause congestion and delays.  Citizens are encouraged to plan ahead for the afternoon commute on Thursday by allowing additional travel time.  Downtown employees are encouraged to begin their commutes before 4:00 p.m. if possible in order to avoid delays.

Commuters are strongly encouraged to use alternative modes of transportation on Thursday, especially baseball fans who are attending the Orioles game at Camden Yards.  Mass transit including MDOT MTA buses, Light RailLink, the Metro SubwayLink and the Charm City Circulator are great ways to access the downtown area.  The MDOT MTA’s Light RailLink service is a convenient way to get to the stadium with a stop right at Oriole Park at Camden Yards.

Throughout the afternoon, Transportation Enforcement Officers will be deployed to help facilitate the movement of traffic.
