Full Closure of MD-295 Scheduled for the Upcoming Weekend of April 4-5, 2020

Roadway closure is necessary to safely accommodate demolition activities on the Annapolis Road Bridge and Waterview Avenue Bridge superstructures

The Baltimore City Department of Transportation would like to advise motorists that a full closure of MD-295 (Baltimore-Washington Parkway) is scheduled to occur this weekend as part of the Triple Bridges Replacement Project. 

As state and federal guidelines deem transportation an essential and critical function, construction activities on the federally funded Triple Bridges Replacement Project will continue during the COVID-19 emergency.    Crews will continue to perform these critical functions while practicing proper social distancing protocols in order to protect the health and well-being of our entire construction team.

A complete weekend closure of MD-295 is necessary to safely accommodate demolition activities along the Annapolis Road Bridge and Waterview Avenue Bridge superstructures.  Beginning at 12:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 4, 2020, both north and southbound MD-295 will be closed to through traffic between Bush Street and I-695 with detours in effect, weather permitting.  This portion of MD-295 will remain closed throughout the weekend and will be reopened to traffic by 5:00 a.m. on Monday, April 6, 2020.

During the closure, all southbound Russell Street traffic destined for MD-295 will be detoured onto I-95 south, and all northbound MD-295 traffic will be diverted onto I-695 to I-95 north.  While this portion of MD-295 is closed for demolition activities, various access ramps to MD-295 will also be closed to prevent traffic from approaching the work zone, including:

• Southbound I-95 ramp to MD-295 south
• Eastbound Monroe Street ramp to MD-295 south
• Manokin Street ramp to MD-295 south
• Annapolis Road ramp to MD-295 south
• I-695 exit ramps to MD-295 north

The weekend closure of MD-295 may cause congestion and delays on the Baltimore-Washington Parkway and along the detour routes.  Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead for the closure by allowing additional travel time and using alternate routes into and out of Baltimore City.

Detours during the MD-295 closure:

• Southbound MD-295/Russell Street traffic will be detoured onto I-95 South.
• Northbound MD-295 that is destined for Baltimore City will be detoured onto I-695 west to I-95 North to Russell Street.

Central Avenue and Fleet Street Intersection Temporary Closure

This Saturday, the intersection of Central Avenue and Fleet Street will temporarily close for traffic signal work.  On Saturday, April 4, 2020, Central Avenue and Fleet Street will be closed to through traffic at the following locations from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. with detours in effect:

• Central Avenue closed between Eastern Avenue and Aliceanna Street
• Fleet Street closed between Eden and Exeter Streets

Motorists traveling in this vicinity should be on the watch for changing traffic patterns and are encouraged to use alternate routes.

President Street Temporary Closure

This Saturday, a portion of northbound President Street will be temporarily closed for a crane lift operation.  On Saturday, April 4, 2020, northbound President Street will be closed to through traffic between Fleet Street and Eastern Avenue from 6:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. with detours in effect.  During this time, hotel access will be permitted at the intersection of Eastern and Central Avenues. 

Motorists traveling in this vicinity should be on the watch for changing traffic patterns and are encouraged to use alternate routes.

Howard Street Temporary Closure

This weekend, a portion of Howard Street will be temporarily closed for striping work.  Staring at 12:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 4, 2020, Howard Street will be closed to through traffic between Baltimore and Centre Streets with detours in effect.  This portion of Howard Street will remain closed until 9:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 5, 2020.

Motorists traveling in this vicinity should be on the watch for changing traffic patterns and are encouraged to use alternate routes.

Hopkins Place Temporary Closure

This Saturday, a portion of Hopkins Place will be temporarily closed for a crane lift operation.  On Saturday, April 4, 2020, Hopkins Place will be closed to through traffic between Lombard and Pratt Streets from 6:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. with detours in effect.  

Motorists traveling in this vicinity should be on the watch for changing traffic patterns and are encouraged to use alternate routes.
