Portions of Charles Street to Close on Saturday, October 17, 2020
Charm City Circulator’s Purple Route will also be detoured during this time
The Baltimore City Department of Transportation (BCDOT) today announced that portions of Charles Street will be closed this Saturday for the Charles Street Promenade pedestrian takeover of the thoroughfare.
On Saturday, October 17, 2020 portions of Charles Street will be closed to through traffic between Saratoga Street and North Avenue from approximately 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. with detours and parking restrictions in effect. During the closure, a number of cross streets along this stretch of Charles Street will remain open for vehicular traffic, including Saratoga, Mulberry, Franklin, Centre, Monument Street/Mount Vernon Place, Madison, Biddle, Chase, Mount Royal, Lanvale and North Ave. The access ramp to I-83/Jones Falls Expressway will also remain open with access from Mount Royal Avenue to Charles Street.
In preparation for the closure, parking restrictions will be implemented along this stretch of Charles Street starting as early as 6:00 p.m. on Friday, October 16, 2020. Motorists planning to park in this vicinity should pay close attention to posted parking restrictions and are strongly encouraged to utilize area garages and surface lots. Vehicles parked in violation will be ticketed.
During this Saturday’s closure of Charles Street, a portion of the Charm City Circulator’s (CCC) Purple Route will be detoured and temporary stop closures along Charles Street will be implemented throughout the day. The Purple Route will be detoured along the following route as it progresses north on Charles Street:
- Left on Saratoga Street,
- Right on Park Avenue,
- Left on Mt. Royal Avenue,
- Right on Howard Street,
- Right on 23rd Street,
- And left back onto Charles Street to continue along the normal Purple CCC Route.
The CCC buses will stop at designated MDOT MTA bus stops along this temporary route on Saturday to pick up and discharge passengers as needed. Riders will be able to board the Charm City Circulator at all other designated stops during this time.
Lane Closures Along the Southbound Jones Falls Expressway
This Saturday, temporary lane closures will be implemented along the southbound Jones Falls Expressway for streetlighting work.
On Saturday, October 17, 2020 temporary right lane closures will be implemented along the southbound Jones Falls Expressway between the county line and 28th Street from 5:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Motorists traveling in this vicinity should be on the watch for changing traffic patterns and are encouraged to use alternate routes.
Monument Street Temporary Closures
This weekend, a portion of Monument Street will be temporarily closed for a crane lift operation.
On Saturday, October 17 and Sunday, October 18, 2020, Monument Street will be closed to through traffic between Wolfe and Washington Streets from 6:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. each day, with detours and parking restrictions in effect.
Motorists traveling in this vicinity should be on the watch for changing traffic patterns and are encouraged to use alternate routes.
Weekend Road Closures in Fell’s Point Through October 31, 2020
The BCDOT would like to advise motorists that weekend road closures will be implemented in Fell’s Point through the end of October.
At this time, the following roadways are closed to through traffic in Fell’s Point:
- Thames Street from the southbound lane of Broadway to the west side of The Pendry
- Northbound lane of S. Broadway between Thames and Lancaster Streets
Additional road closures will also be implemented in Fell’s Point every Thursday through Sunday from 7:00 p.m. to 3:00 a.m. the following morning through October 31, 2020. These road closures include:
- Lancaster Street at Bond Street
- Lancaster Street at Ann Street
- Thames Street at Caroline Street
- Thames Street at Ann Street
- Broadway at Aliceanna Street
- Broadway at Fleet Street
- Broadway at Eastern Avenue
Additional road closures may be implemented in the Fell’s Point area if needed for safety reasons. Various parking restrictions are now in effect along Thames Street, Broadway and other areas of Fell’s Point. Visitors should pay close attention to all posted parking restrictions and avoid parking in restricted areas. Residential Permit Parking (RPP) regulations will be strictly enforced in Fell’s Point (RPP Area 16) and vehicles parked in violation will be ticketed.
A passenger loading zone has been established in the 800 block of S. Broadway (southbound) north of Shakespeare Street to allow for customer order pick-ups and delivery vehicles. Local access will be maintained for authorized vehicles such as refuse and delivery trucks, Zip Cars, etc. In addition, parking will be allowed along the 800 block of S. Broadway each Saturday from 5:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. for Fell’s Point Farmers Market vendors.
Motorists traveling in historic Fell’s Point should be on the watch for changing traffic patterns and are encouraged to use alternate routes.
Weekend Road Closures in Canton
This weekend, temporary road closures and parking restrictions will be implemented in Canton to allow for outdoor dining.
Starting on Friday, October 16 and continuing through Sunday, October 18, 2020, the following roadways will be closed in Canton from 12:00 noon to 10:00 p.m. each day with detours and parking restrictions in effect:
- O’Donnell Street (both the east and west sides) between Linwood and Potomac Streets
- Curley Street from O’Donnell Street east and west to the alleyways
Curb lane closures will also be implemented along the following roadways during these times:
- S. Linwood Street between O’Donnell and Elliot Streets
- S. Linwood Street between O’Donnell and Dillon Streets
- S. Potomac Street between O’Donnell and Dillon Streets
Canton visitors and residents should pay close attention to all posted parking restrictions and avoid parking in restricted areas. Motorists traveling in this vicinity should be on the watch for changing traffic patterns and are encouraged to use alternate routes.
Cross Street Closure in Federal Hill to Allow for Outdoor Dining
The BCDOT would like to remind motorists that a portion of Cross Street has been closed in Federal Hill to allow for outdoor dining.
At this time, the north side of S. Cross Street is closed to through traffic between Light and Charles Streets with detours and parking restrictions in effect.
Motorists traveling in historic Federal Hill should be on the watch for changing traffic patterns and are encouraged to use alternate routes.
Portion of Loch Raven Drive at Loch Raven Reservoir Remains Closed to Traffic
The BCDOT would like to remind motorists that a portion of Loch Raven Drive in Baltimore County is now closed to through traffic due to a failed culvert.
At this time, Loch Raven Drive is closed between Morgan Mill Road and Providence Road at Loch Raven Reservoir. The timeframe for reopening the roadway has not yet been determined.
Closure and detour signs have been posted in the area. Motorists traveling in this vicinity should be on the watch for changing traffic patterns and are encouraged to use alternate routes.
