Traffic Modifications for the St. Patrick’s Day Parade and Shamrock 5K Run

The Baltimore City Department of Transportation would like to advise motorists of the road closures and parking restrictions in effect for the St. Patrick’s Day Parade which will be held on Sunday, March 12, 2023 starting at 2:00 p.m.  The parade will kick off from the intersection of Charles and Centre Streets and will proceed south on N. Charles Street and east on Pratt Street to the disband area along Market Place. 

Parade participants will begin forming at approximately 12:00 p.m. in the vicinity of the Washington Monument.  The parade should last about three hours and traffic will be able to cross the parade route during periodic breaks in the march.  Motorists are advised that temporary traffic stops will be implemented during the event for the safety of participants

Prior to the parade, the Shamrock 5K Run will be held at the intersection of Charles and Franklin Streets beginning at 1:00 p.m.  Participants will proceed south on Charles Street, east on Conway Street, south on Light Street and east on Key Highway.  Runners will turn around at Jackson Street and proceed westbound on Key Highway, north on Light Street and then east on Pratt Street.  The race will end at Pratt Street and Market Place. 

In preparation for the event, a designated travel lane will be separated with traffic cones for participants along the race route where possible.  In addition, Key Highway will be closed to through traffic at Lawrence Street starting at approximately 12:30 p.m. for the duration of the 5K Run (access for local traffic will be maintained).

The following road closures will be implemented on Sunday, March 12, 2023 during the St. Patrick’s Day Parade and 5K race starting at approximately 11:30 a.m.:

  • Market Place from Pratt to Water Streets
  • Charles Street from Madison to Pratt Streets
  • Mt. Vernon Place from Cathedral to St. Paul Streets
  • Centre Street from Park Avenue to St. Paul Street
  • Mulberry Street from Park Avenue to Lovegrove Streets
  • Pratt Street from Howard to President Streets
  • Key Highway will be closed to through traffic at Lawrence Street starting at approximately 12:30 p.m. for the duration of the 5K Run (access for local traffic will be maintained)

In addition, parking restrictions will be in effect along the parade and race routes on Sunday, March 12, 2023 from 7:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m.:

  • Mt. Vernon Place from Cathedral to St. Paul Streets
  • Charles Street from Madison to Conway Streets
  • Centre Street from Morton Alley to Lovegrove Street
  • Pratt Street from Gay to President Streets (north side)
  • Market Place from Pratt to Water Streets
  • East side of Light Street from E. Lombard to E. Pratt Streets (inlet parking lane).
  • West side of Light Street from E. Pratt Street to Sullivan’s Steakhouse (inlet parking lane)
  • Mulberry Street from Cathedral to Lovegrove Streets (south side)
  • Key Highway from Light to Jackson Streets

Transportation Enforcement Officers will assist the Baltimore City Police with the movement of traffic in the downtown area.  Motorists traveling in this vicinity may experience delays and are encouraged to use alternate routes.

Charm City Circulator (CCC) Service Alert
On Sunday, March 12, 2023, temporary route detours and stop closures will be implemented along the Charm City Circulator’s Purple, Orange and Banner Routes because of the parade and 5K race. 

There will be no service at the following CCC stops on Sunday, March 12, 2023 from approximately 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.:
Purple Route – 301, 302, 303, 304, 305, 306, 307, 329, 331 and 338
Orange Route – 201, 202, 203, 204, 220, 221, 222, 223 and 224
Banner Route – 402, 403, 404, 405, 406, 415, 416, 417, 418, 419 and 420

Patrons are encouraged to utilize nearby CCC stops on Sunday for service
during the events.
