Citizens urged to drive with caution as slippery conditions could develop

The Baltimore City Department of Transportation Director Michelle Pourciau would like to encourage citizens to plan ahead for inclement weather expected early Friday morning in the Baltimore region.  A mixture of rain and snow is forecast during the morning commute, which may affect driving conditions and cause delays.

The Baltimore City Snow Team is prepared for the winter precipitation and will closely monitor weather and roadway conditions.  Crews will activate at 4:30 p.m. today, Thursday, January 17, 2019 and work throughout the night to treat city streets and address icy conditions. 

“With the possibility of snow and freezing precipitation early tomorrow, we urge citizens to drive with extreme caution during the morning commute,” said Director Michelle Pourciau. “Slippery conditions could develop on wet roadways, so we advise everyone to keep in mind that what appears to be wet could be ice, especially on untreated surfaces and infrequently traveled roadways.”

Citizens are encouraged to plan ahead and be prepared for the Friday morning commute, as mixed precipitation may cause hazardous driving conditions.  Roadways may become slick, especially on bridges, ramps and overpasses.  Motorists are strongly advised to allow additional travel time, drive at reduced speeds and increase following distance for everyone’s safety.  Citizens are also encouraged to delay their morning commute on Friday if possible to avoid traveling during the storm.
