Winter Storm Forecast for the Baltimore Region May Affect Roadway Conditions on Saturday
Friday Jan 17th, 2020
The Baltimore City Department of Transportation would like to encourage residents to plan ahead for a winter storm event that is forecast to begin on Saturday morning in the Baltimore region. According to the latest weather reports, one inche of snow is expected in Baltimore City beginning early Saturday, followed by sleet/freezing rain before changing over to rain by late afternoon.
In preparation for the storm, the Baltimore City Snow Team will be closely monitoring weather and roadway conditions. Crews have been readying snow equipment and will pre-treat city gateways and primary roadways with salt brine this afternoon. Snow crews will activate at 6:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 18, 2020 to treat city streets during the storm.
Citizens are encouraged to plan ahead and be prepared for inclement weather if traveling on Saturday. Winter precipitation can cause roadways to become slick, especially on bridges, ramps and overpasses. Motorists are strongly advised to drive at reduced speeds, plan additional travel time and allow extra following distance for everyone’s safety. During the storm, motorists are reminded not to “crowd the plow” by staying behind working snow vehicles and allowing them plenty of space to operate.
For updated weather forecasts and traffic conditions, citizens should tune into local media stations. Citizens can also find updated information at snow.baltimorecity.gov and by following DOT on Twitter @BmorecityDOT and Facebook at Baltimore City Department of Transportation.
