Transportation COVID Operation Status_May Update


Mayor Young, Director Steve Sharkey announce suspension, to take effect Monday, April 6

BALTIMORE, MD.  — Today, the Baltimore City Department of Transportation (DOT) announced the Harbor Connector maritime commuter services will be suspended, beginning Monday, April 6. Mayor Young issued the following statement:

“This change further encourages residents to stay at home as much as possible, and to practice social distancing when commuting,” Mayor Young said. “I support Director Steve Sharkey’s decision, and know he and his team are working hard to mitigate the spread of COVID-19.”

Charm City Circulator Services Update: COVID-19

To support the City’s efforts to limit the spread of the COVID-19 virus,  starting Wednesday, March 18th, all non-disabled  passengers will be directed to board through the rear doors of the bus to limit close contact between passengers and drivers. We also ask that non-disabled passengers exit the vehicle from the rear doors. Please allow passengers to de-board before boarding the bus. Disabled passengers will be allowed to board at the front doors. We thank you for your on-going  support as we continue to adapt our service to meet the needs and safety of the community.

Baltimore City Department of Transportation's Safety & Towing Division COVID-19 Update

Department of Transportation suspends vehicle retrievals and closes impound facilities to the public in response to COVID-19:

Due to the potential spread in Baltimore City of Covid-19, and for the protection of the general public and our employees, the Baltimore City Department of Transportation's Safety and Towing Division will suspend all vehicle retrievals from its Pulaski Highway and Fallsway Impound Facilities as of Monday, March 16, 2020. This suspension of vehicle retrievals will remain in effect until further notice in order to protect the health and safety of Baltimore residents, visitors, and employees.

During this time, the main offices of the City's impound facilities located at 6700 Pulaski Highway and 410 Fallsway will be closed to the public, and vehicle storage fees will be frozen so that additional storage fees will not accrue.

Citizens who have questions or need additional information may call the Pulaski Highway Impound Facility at 410-545-3417. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

Right of Way Services Division Closed to the Public in Response to COVID-19

Due to the circumstances surrounding the COVID-19 health situation and for the protection of the general public and our employees, the Baltimore City Department of Transportation - Right of Way Services Division located at 401 E. Fayette Street, along with the Department of Recreation and Parks Permit Office located at 3201 Boston Street will be closed to the public beginning Monday, March 16, 2020.  At that time, Temporary Use of the Right of Way, Special Event or Minor Privilege permit applications will not be accepted in person.

Special Event permit applications for activities such as Block Parties, Special Events, Ceremonial Street Signs, Event Parking, Horizontal Banner and Street Vending Licenses & Permits can be found online at https://transportation.baltimorecity.gov/special-events-permitting-stree....  Applications and questions should be submitted to [email protected]. Please visit our website and/or email us for updates regarding the Special Events and Vendor Licensing Section. For additional information or to schedule appointments for Mobile Vending Licenses, call 410-396-1916.

Special Event Cancellations Due to COVID-19 

The Baltimore City Department of Transportation would like to advise residents and visitors that all large events (more than 250 people) permitted through the City of Baltimore for the month of March, 2020 shall be cancelled or postponed effective immediately due to the Coronavirus public health situation.

Letter to Charm City Circulator and Harbor Connector Riders Regarding COVID-19

Dear Charm City Circulator (CCC) and Harbor Connector (HC) Riders,

Public safety is DOT’s top priority for our transit users.  With the COVID-19 public health crisis, we want to share the following actions that are being taken to prevent the spread of the virus on our transit vehicles. 

While we continue to routinely clean the CCC busses and HC vessels at the end of every day, we have increased our cleaning efforts to include mid-day cleanings for every vehicle and vessel in operation.  These cleanings include disinfecting all passenger touch-point locations such as seats, windows, hand rails etc.   

At this time, both CCC and HC schedules will remain the same, but are subject to change in this rapidly evolving situation.  Given the nature of the virus, it is critical that all persons consider the following when out in public areas:

  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
  • Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue into the trash.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth.
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.
  • Stay home when you are sick, except to get medical attention.
  • Wash your hands frequently with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.
