Light Street to Close for Removal of Tower Crane
Friday Jul 27th, 2018
Motorists should use alternate routes as traffic in the downtown area will be significantly impacted
The Baltimore City Department of Transportation would like to advise motorists that a portion of Light Street will be closed for the removal of a tower crane. As construction of a new building in the central business district nears completion, Light Street will need to be closed for the disassembly and removal of a tower crane that was used to build the new facility.
To facilitate the tower crane removal, Light Street will be closed to traffic between Baltimore and Redwood Streets beginning at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, August 01, 2018 with detours in effect. This portion of Light Street will remain closed until approximately 5:00 a.m. on Monday, August 06, 2018.
Variable message signs will be deployed in the area to alert motorists of the closure. Transportation Enforcement Officers (TEOs) will also be deployed to assist with the movement of traffic in the downtown area. Motorists should plan ahead for this closure by allowing additional travel time and utilizing alternate routes to avoid the area.
During the closure, the detour route in the central business district redirects motorists west on Fayette Street, south on Hopkins Place/Sharp Street to Conway Street. Motorists with destinations outside of the downtown area are encouraged to use alternate routes that bypass the central business district.
