Weekend Road Closures for Friday, March 1st Through Sunday, March 3, 2024

The Baltimore City Department of Transportation would like to advise motorists of the temporary road closures and traffic modifications for the following activities this weekend.  Please download the Waze.com app for live detour navigation.  All activities are weather permitting and BCDOT is not responsible for providing status updates.

Heavy Traffic Expected Downtown for the CIAA Basketball Tournament

This weekend, heavy traffic conditions are expected in the downtown area for the CIAA Basketball Tournament being held at the CFG Bank Arena.

Heavy traffic is expected in the downtown area Friday, March 1 through Sunday, March 3, 2024.  Tournament games will be held throughout the weekend at various times each day, so motorists traveling downtown should plan for possible traffic congestion and delays. 

In addition, various traffic modifications (listed below) will be implemented in the vicinity of the CFG Arena throughout the weekend.

The following curb lane closures will be implemented starting at 6:00 a.m. on Monday, February 26 through 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 3, 2024 with parking restrictions in effect:

  • E. Biddle Street (south side) from N. Calvert Street to Hunter Street.
  • N. Calvert Street (east side) from E. Biddle Street to 1121B N. Calvert Street.
  • Hopkins Plaza (west side) from W. Baltimore Street to the first bus stop south of W. Baltimore Street.

The following curb lane closures will be implemented starting at 7:00 a.m. on Monday, February 26 through 11:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 2, 2024 with parking restrictions in effect:

  • Camden Street (both sides) from S. Eutaw Street to Russell Street.
  • W. Fayette Street (south side) from N. Charles Street to N. Hanover Street.
  • Redwood Street (both sides) from S. Charles Street to Light Street.
  • E. Coast Greenway (east side) from Lee Street to E. Barre Street.
  • Water Street (both sides) from South Street to S. Calvert Street. 
  • S. Central Avenue (east side) from Aliceanna Street to Fleet Street.
  • Liberty Street (west side) from Clay Street to Marion Street.
  • Park Avenue (east side) from W. Fayette Street to Clay Street.

The following road closure will be implemented on Friday, March 1 and Saturday, March 2, 2024 from approximately 2:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. each day with detours and parking restrictions in effect:

  • Park Avenue (west side) from W. Baltimore Street to W. Fayette Street.

In addition, exclusive lanes will be designated for vehicles exiting area parking garages each evening of the event Monday, February 26 through Sunday, March 3, 2024 starting at approximately 7:00 p.m.:

  • CFG Arena Garage on S. Howard Street north of W. Lombard Street
  • W. Baltimore Street Garage between Howard Street and Park Avenue

Patrons attending the CIAA festivities are encouraged to use the city’s Charm City Circulator.  The Orange route will take riders to the CFG Bank Arena and buses on tournament days will run every ten minutes.  Best of all, this service is convenient and free!

 

Traffic Modifications for Weekend Activities

This weekend, temporary lane closures will be in effect for various activities including cleaning activities and crane operations. 

On Saturday, March 2, 2024, the following road and lane closures will be implemented (times approximate):

  • Oliver Street closed between Brentwood Avenue and Barclay Street 6:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (crane operation).
  • N. Lakewood Avenue closed between Orleans Street and Pulaski Highway 6:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. (crane operation).
  • 33rd Street westbound lane closures between Calvert Street and St. Paul Street 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. (crane operation).
  • Hilton Parkway northbound and southbound right lane closures between North Avenue and Hilton Street 6:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. (cleaning activities).

On Sunday, March 3, 2024, the following lane closures will be implemented (times approximate):

  • Jones Falls Expressway / I-83 northbound and southbound left lane closures between Fayette Street and the city/county line 6:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. (cleaning activities).

Motorists traveling in these vicinities should be on the watch for changing traffic patterns and are encouraged to use alternate routes.
