Heavy Traffic Volumes Possible Downtown on Friday Evening for Multiple Events
Patrons attending downtown events are encouraged to use public transportation
The Baltimore City Department of Transportation would like to advise motorists that heavy traffic volumes are possible in downtown Baltimore tomorrow afternoon/evening, Friday, August 9, 2024, for multiple events.
The City of Baltimore is gearing up for an exciting evening on Friday with numerous events happening simultaneously downtown. The Ravens will be playing their first preseason home game against the Philadelphia Eagles at M&T Bank Stadium starting at 7:30 p.m. In addition to the game, the Slipknot: “Here Comes the Pain” 25th Anniversary Tour will be held at CFG Bank Arena starting at 7:00 p.m. and Fantasia will be performing at the nearby Pier Six Pavilion beginning at 8:00 p.m.
Fans attending any of these events Friday are encouraged to come early and stay late to avoid possible traffic congestion and delays. Motorists should plan for possible heavy traffic volumes downtown Friday by allowing additional travel time.
Those who are driving downtown should be advised that all posted parking restrictions and residential permit parking regulations will be strictly enforced. Vehicles parked in violation are subject to being ticketed and towed. Patrons attending the football game who do not have passes for the stadium lots are strongly encouraged to use parking garages in the downtown area and avoid parking in nearby neighborhoods.
Patrons attending any of these events are strongly encouraged to use mass transit or ride share options including the Light Rail, Metro Subway, Local Bus, Charm City Circulator, e-bikes and e-scooters.
Transportation Enforcement Officers along with the Baltimore City Police will be stationed in the downtown area to assist with the movement of traffic. Commuters can download the Waze.com app for live detour navigation.
Traffic Modifications for the Baltimore Ravens Preseason Game
The Baltimore City Department of Transportation would like to advise of the traffic modifications that will be implemented on Friday for the Baltimore Ravens Preseason game against the Philadelphia Eagles which will be held at M&T Bank Stadium starting at 7:30 p.m.
In preparation for the game, the following road and lane closures will be implemented on Friday, August 9, 2024, starting at approximately 3:30 p.m.:
- The Hamburg Street Bridge will be temporarily closed between Leaden Hall and Paca Streets for game ingress. Once the game begins, the closures will be removed until the start of the fourth quarter for egress.
- The Ostend Street Bridge will be temporarily closed between Sharp and Warner Streets for game ingress. Once the game begins, the closures will be removed until the start of the fourth quarter for egress.
- A special traffic pattern will be temporarily installed along Warner Street between the Ostend Street Bridge and Stockholm Street for ingress and railroad crossings.
- Special traffic patterns will be installed along Warner Street, Alluvion Street, Worcester Street, and Bayard Street for egress at the start of the fourth quarter.
- Hamburg Street will be closed between Hanover and Charles Streets for egress at the start of the fourth quarter.
- No southbound travel will be permitted along Hanover Street between Henrietta and Hamburg Streets at the start of the fourth quarter for egress. All traffic will be diverted onto Henrietta Street for east or westbound travel.
Football fans attending the game should be advised that all posted parking restrictions and residential permit parking regulations in the vicinity of the stadium will be strictly enforced. Fans that drive to the stadium should park at commercial lots and avoid area neighborhoods. Those who do not have a parking permit for any of the stadium lots are strongly encouraged to use public transportation including the Metro Subway, Light Rail, Local Bus, or Charm City Circulator.
The Department of Transportation will deploy Transportation Enforcement Officers to assist with the movement of traffic in the downtown area. Motorists traveling in the vicinity of the stadium should be on the watch for heavy pedestrian/vehicular traffic and possible traffic pattern changes prior to and during this event.
Lane Closures for CFG Bank Arena Event
This Friday, temporary lane closures will be implemented in the vicinity of the CFG Bank Arena for an arena event.
In preparation for the event, the following lane closures will be implemented from approximately 10:00 p.m. on Friday, August 9th until 1:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 10, 2024:
- Howard Street left lane closure from Camden to Pratt Streets
- Lombard Street right lane closure from Hopkins Place to Howard Street
- Baltimore Street left lane closure from Howard Street to Park Avenue
- Pratt Street left lane closure from Eutaw to Howard Streets
Motorists traveling in this vicinity should be on the watch for changing traffic patterns and are encouraged to use alternate routes.
Traffic Modifications for the Ruth M. Kirk Family Fun Festival & Parade
This weekend, temporary road closures and parking restrictions will be in effect for the Ruth M. Kirk Family Fun Festival and Parade which will be held at Franklin Square Park.
In preparation for the festival, the following streets will be closed from approximately 7:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 10th until 8:00 p.m. on August 11, 2024, with detours and parking restrictions in effect:
- W. Lexington Street between N. Calhoun and N. Carey Streets
- N. Calhoun Street between W. Fayette and W. Lexington Streets
- N. Carey Street between W. Fayette and W. Lexington Streets
In addition, the following street will be closed on Saturday, August 10, 2024, starting at 9:30 a.m. for the parade with detours and parking restrictions in effect, and will remain closed until the parade is clear:
- N. Carey Street between Edmondson Avenue and W. Fayette Street
Motorists traveling in this vicinity should be advised that temporary traffic stops will be implemented during the event for the safety of parade participants. The Baltimore City Police will be stationed along the parade route to help facilitate the movement of traffic during the event.
All posted parking restrictions will be strictly enforced, and motorists should avoid parking in prohibited areas. Motorists traveling in this vicinity should be on the watch for pedestrians and are encouraged to use alternate routes to avoid delays.
Traffic Modifications for the Stadium School’s Back to School Parade
This Saturday, temporary road closures and parking restrictions will be in effect for the Stadium School’s Back to School Parade which will be held in the Coldstream-Homestead-Montebello community.
In preparation for the parade, the following street will be closed starting at approximately 10:30 a.m. with detours and parking restrictions in effect:
- Exeter Hall Avenue between Greenmount and Kirk Avenues
Motorists traveling in this vicinity should be advised that temporary traffic stops will be implemented during the event for the safety of parade participants. The Baltimore City School Police will be stationed along the parade route to help facilitate the movement of traffic during the event.
All posted parking restrictions will be strictly enforced, and motorists should avoid parking in prohibited areas. Motorists traveling in this vicinity should be on the watch for pedestrians and are encouraged to use alternate routes to avoid delays.
Traffic Modifications for Weekend Activities
This weekend, temporary road and lane closures will be in effect for various activities.
On Saturday, August 10, 2024, the following road and lane closures will be implemented (times approximate):
- I-70 underpass closed in both directions between Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard to Payson Street 6:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. (cleaning & repair activities)
- 32nd Street closure between Calvert and St. Paul Streets 6:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. (crane operation)
- Baltimore Street lane closures between Pine and Greene Streets 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. (crane operation)
- Greene Street closure between Redwood and Lombard Streets 6:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. (crane operation)
On Sunday, August 11, 2024, the following lane closures will be implemented (times approximate):
- MD 295 left lane closures northbound and southbound between Hamburg Street and the city/county line 6:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. (cleaning activities)
- I-83 / Jones Falls Expressway left lane closures northbound and southbound between Fayette Street and the city/county line 6:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. (cleaning activities)
Motorists traveling in these vicinities should be on the watch for changing traffic patterns and are encouraged to use alternate routes.
Traffic Modifications for the Baltimore Farmers' Market
This Sunday, traffic modifications will be in effect for the Baltimore Farmers' Market, which is held under the Jones Falls Expressway along Saratoga Street between Holliday and Gay Streets.
On Sunday, August 11, 2024, the following street and lane closures will be implemented from approximately 6:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. with parking restrictions in effect:
- Holliday Street closed from E. Pleasant Street to E. Saratoga Street
- Pleasant Street closed at Holliday Street
- Hillen Street center lane closure between Front Street and Fallsway
