Weekend Road Closures for October 11-13, 2019

Hanover Street Bridge Closures Scheduled Throughout the Weekend

The Baltimore City Department of Transportation would like to advise motorists that temporary closures of the Hanover Street Bridge/Vietnam Veterans Memorial Bridge are scheduled to occur this weekend for repair work. 

The Hanover Street Bridge/Vietnam Veterans Memorial Bridge is scheduled to be closed to through traffic in both directions between Waterview Avenue and Cromwell Street (weather permitting) with detours in effect on the following dates and times:

  • Friday, October 11, 2019 at 6:00 p.m. to Saturday, October 12, 2019 at 6:00 p.m.
  • Monday, October 14, 2019 at 6:00 a.m. to Tuesday, October 15, 2019 at 4:00 a.m. 

Variable message signs will be deployed in the area to alert motorists of the closure.  Motorists traveling in this vicinity should be on the watch for changing traffic patterns and are encouraged to use alternate routes. 

During the closure, citizens should utilize Russell Street/MD-295 as an alternate route: 

Southbound Hanover Street detour:

Southbound Hanover Street traffic will be detoured south on I-95, south on MD-295, south on Waterview Avenue via the Annapolis Road exit, then back to Hanover Street.

Northbound Hanover Street detour:

Northbound Hanover Street traffic will be detoured west on Waterview Avenue via the Annapolis Road exit, north on the service road to MD-295/Russell Street, east on Hamburg Street back to Hanover Street. 

 

Traffic Modifications for the Morgan Homecoming Parade

On Saturday, October 12, 2019 temporary road closures and parking restrictions will be implemented for the Morgan Homecoming Parade. 

The parade will kick at 9:00 a.m. off from The Alameda and Chinquapin Parkway and will proceed south on The Alameda, east on Coldspring Lane and south on Hillen Road where it will disband.  The parade is expected to last approximately two hours.

In preparation for the event, the following streets will be closed to through traffic on Saturday, October 12, 2019 with detours in effect:

8:00 a.m. until clear – Hillen Road from Argonne Drive to Coldspring Lane

8:45 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. – The Alameda from Chinquapin Parkway to Coldspring Lane

8:45 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. – Coldspring Lane from The Alameda to Hillen Road

In addition, parking restrictions will be in effect along the following roadways from 8:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon:

Both sides of The Alameda from Chinquapin Parkway to Coldspring Lane

Both sides of Coldspring Lane from The Alameda to Loch Raven Boulevard

South side of Coldspring Lane from Loch Raven Boulevard to Hillen Road

Both sides of Hillen Road from Argonne Drive to Cold Spring Lane

Commuters should be aware that temporary traffic stops may be implemented along the parade route for the safety of participants.  The Baltimore City Police and Transportation Enforcement Officers will be stationed along the route to help facilitate the movement of traffic. Motorists traveling in this vicinity are encouraged to watch for pedestrians and use alternate routes.

 

Road Closure for the Greek Food, Wine and Culture Festival

This weekend, a temporary street closure will be in effect for the Greek Food, Wine and Culture Festival.  The festival began on Thursday, October 10th and runs through Sunday, October 13, 2019 at the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral on West Preston Street. 

In preparation for the event, Preston Street has been closed to through traffic between Maryland Avenue and Cathedral Street and will remain closed until 6:00 p.m. on Monday, October 14, 2019 with detours in effect.

Motorists traveling in this vicinity should be on the watch for pedestrians attending the festival and are encouraged to use alternate routes.

 

Traffic Modifications for the Fells Point Fun Festival

This weekend, traffic modifications will be in effect for the 53rd annual Fells Point Fun Festival which will be held on Saturday, October 12th and Sunday, October 13, 2019 in historic Fells Point. 

In preparation for the event, Thames Street between Point and Bond Streets will be closed to through traffic from 4:00 p.m. on Friday, October 11, 2019 until 10:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 13, 2019 with parking restrictions in effect.

In addition, the following roadways will be closed to through traffic from 6:00 a.m. Saturday, October 12, 2019 until 10:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 13, 2019 with parking restrictions in effect:

  • Thames Street between Bond and Wolfe Streets
  • Broadway between Fleet and Thames Streets
  • Ann Street between Lancaster and Thames Streets (partial closure at Ann and Aliceanna Streets)
  • 1630 Lancaster Street to Broadway / 1703 Lancaster Street to Broadway
  • 838 Bond Street to Thames Street
  • 1631 Shakespeare Street to Broadway
  • 909 Fell Street to Thames Street

Patrons attending the event are strongly encouraged to use public transportation and avoid parking in local neighborhoods.  Motorists should pay close attention to posted parking restrictions and avoid parking in prohibited areas.  Parking restrictions will be strictly enforced throughout the duration of the festival for everyone’s safety.  Vehicles parked in violation will be relocated and citizens with questions concerning the location of their vehicle should call 311.

Motorists should be on the watch for pedestrians while traveling in this vicinity and are encouraged to use alternate routes. 

 

Traffic Modifications for the Canton Fall Festival

The Baltimore City Department of Transportation would like to advise motorists of the traffic modification for the Canton Fall Festival.  The event will be held in Patterson Park on Saturday, October 12, 2019 from 10:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. 

In preparation for the event, Linwood Avenue will be closed to through traffic between Eastern Avenue and Pratt Street on Saturday, October 12, 2019 from 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 p.m. with detours in effect.  Parking will also be restricted in this area during this time.

Detour signs will be posted in the area.  Motorists traveling in this vicinity are encouraged to watch for pedestrians and should consider using alternate routes.

 

Lombard Street Lane Closures

On Saturday, temporary lane closures will be implemented along a portion of Lombard Street for a crane lift operation.  On Saturday, October 12, 2019, four lanes of through traffic will be implemented along Lombard Street between Gay and Calvert Streets from 3:00 a.m. until approximately 4:00 p.m. 

These lane closures may cause delays and motorists traveling in this vicinity are encouraged to use alternate routes.

 

Charles Street Temporary Closure

This Saturday, a portion of Charles Street will be temporarily closed for a crane lift operation. 

On Saturday, October 12, 2019 Charles Street will be closed to through traffic between 29th and 31st Streets from 7:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. with detours in effect.

Motorists traveling in this vicinity should be on the watch for changing traffic patterns and are encouraged to use alternate routes.

 

Eden Street Temporary Closure

This Saturday, a portion of Eden Street will be temporarily closed for a crane lift operation. 

On Saturday, October 12, 2019 Eden Street will be closed to through traffic between Aliceanna and Lancaster Streets from 6:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. with detours in effect.

Motorists traveling in this vicinity should be on the watch for changing traffic patterns and are encouraged to use alternate routes.

 

Traffic Modifications for the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk

This Sunday, traffic modifications will be implemented for the American Cancer Society’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk.

The walk begins at 9:00 a.m. and kicks off from the Harry and Jeanette Weinberg YMCA located at Stadium Place.  Participants will proceed west on E. 33rd Street, right on Ellerslie Avenue, right on E. 36th Street, right on Ednor Road, and left on E. 35th Street.   Walkers will then turn right on Hillen Road and left to Lake Montebello, loop around the lake and exit on E. 33rd Street.  The walk proceeds west on 33rd Street, right on Ednor Road and left on Lakeside Avenue to finish at the YMCA parking lot.

During the event, one lane of traffic will be coned off for participants wherever possible along the walk route.  In addition, commuters should be aware that temporary traffic stops will be implemented along the walk route for the safety of participants.  Motorists traveling in this vicinity may experience delays and should be on the watch for pedestrians.
