Rapid Enhancement Plans

Rapid Enhancement Plans (REP) address various gaps critical to the implementation of the citywide bicycle network. REP selection considers routes that will provide an immediate return on investment and advance the goal of a unified, low stress, highly accessible bike network.

The Madison Avenue REP will provide an important neighborhood connection south of North Avenue and complement the Eutaw Street separated bike lane currently to be funded and constructed. This Bicycle Boulevard will serve to calm traffic in the Madison Park neighborhood.

The 27th Street REP will extend the footprint of the Big Jump, a pilot project which features a mixed-use trail along Druid Park Lake Drive. The REP will start at the adjacent intersection of 27th Street and East Sisson Street. It will extend down 27th Street and run across numerous existing bike facilities and end at the intersection of East Barclay Street. These existing facilities include a separated bike lane on Maryland Avenue, the South Pratt Street Bike Lane, the and Guilford Avenue Bike Boulevard.

The Sharp Street REP will extend the Maryland Avenue cycle-track through the Baltimore Convention Center to Gwynn Falls Trail beginning at West Henrietta St. The completion of this project will provide bike infrastructure for future connections to the Middle Branch Trail.

The Mount Royal Streetscape REP will extend the West Mount Royal Avenue Separated Bike Lane and link the North Avenue Rising project to Guilford Avenue and the Jones Falls Trail. This key facility will provide a safe, comfortable, and direct route to many destinations south of Reservoir Hill and north of Mid-Town Belvedere.

The West Baltimore Bike Boulevards are 5 REPS within the neighborhoods of Franklin Square, Boyd Booth, Shipley Hill, and Penrose/Fayette Street Outreach. Each Bicycle Boulevards are streets with low motorized traffic volumes and speeds. The rapid enhancements here create a more bike friendly and comfortable environments.
